What’s Causing Your Fatigue?

Filed Under (Health and Fitness) by admin on 22-01-2010

Are you feeling energised, inspired, motivated, creative and hopeful?

Fatigue is a sense of weariness, lethargy and lack of physical energy that you wake up with every morning and live with every day, even after a good night’s sleep.

Fatigue is like a red flag. It is your body’s way of telling you that something is not quite right. Ignoring it won’t make it go away, in fact in may just get worse and possibly lead to illness.

If you’ve been experiencing fatigue, the first thing to do is see your GP. If your GP has ruled out any medical causes for your fatigue, then I can help.

Although Western and Eastern medicine approach the treatment of fatigue in slightly different ways, they both believe that fatigue is caused by internal imbalances in your body. Fix the imbalances and you fix the fatigue.

These imbalances could be on an emotional level, mental or physical level. So an effective treatment approach needs to address all 3 levels.

Western Perspective on Fatigue

In Western Medicine, non-medical fatigue is believed to be caused by one of the following:

Alcohol, smoking, drugs Highly processed diet High acid diet Inadequate water intake Menopause High GI diet Lack of sunlight Poor nutritional diet Stress Excessive intake of coffee & stimulants Obesity Lack of pleasure in life Poor sleeping habits PMT Unresolved emotions Inadequate or excessive exercise Pollution – Noise or Air Workaholism

Eastern (TCM) Perspective on Fatigue

Unlike Western medicine, Eastern medicine looks at specific patterns of Chi imbalance – disharmonies in the energy channels or the meridians. If a Chi imbalance in any of the meridians is left untreated, it will cause fatigue and dis-ease. Their treatment approach is based on locating and correcting these Chi imbalances before they translate into illness and fatigue.
